Retreat into the Desert (Week of Feb 11)
On the Road
The Lenten season begins this week on Ash Wednesday. Many of us can become caught up in the popular activities during Lent that we might neglect the spiritual quietness necessary for this solemn season. We all need to find ways to "retreat into the desert" for these forty days. Lent is a sacred time of allowing ourselves to journey inward. We are called to imitate Christ's dying through spiritual disciplines. Through Works of Mercy, we can offer ourselves as "living sacrifices" by serving the needs of others. In doing so we humble ourselves to experience Christ's dying and rising with renewed hope and love.
Encounter
"Souls without prayer are like bodies, palsied and lame, having hands and feet they cannot use." Saint Teresa of Avila "Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints." Ephesians 6:18
Go Forth
Why is it important for you to sacrifice during the season of Lent? Write a letter of commitment to Christ. Describe what you will do to be a "living sacrifice" during this Lenten season.
