Servant Leadership
On the Road
On November 13 the Church celebrates the feast day of "Saint Frances Cabrini":http://saintsresource.com/saint-index/st-frances-xavier-cabrini, popularly known as Mother Cabrini. She was the first American citizen to be canonized. Dedicated to charitable work, she founded a religious order in Italy to care for orphans. Mother Cabrini traveled to the United States with members of her community to minister to Italian immigrants. Over the next thirty-five years, Mother Cabrini founded sixty-seven institutions caring for the poor, sick, neglected, and uneducated. During this week, consider how you and your parish are involved in serving those in need. Participate in the ways your parish promotes justice"”as Mother Cabrini did"” in the home, the classroom, the community, and the world. h3. Encounter "[Jesus] sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "˜Whoever want to be first must be last of all and servant of all.' Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, "˜Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me'" (Mark 9:35-36). "We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love" (Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta). h3. Go Forth How do you find happiness and satisfaction in serving others? What can you do to encourage others to have an attitude of servant leadership?
