The Year of Faith (Week of Oct 8)
On the Road
This week, the Catholic Church begins her year-long celebration of the Year of Faith from October 11, 2012 to November 24, 2013. Proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI with his Apostolic Letter, "Porta Fidei,":http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/motu_proprio/documents/hf_ben-xvi_motu-proprio_20111011_porta-fidei_en.html, this is a time of anniversaries"”the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the twentieth anniversary of the _Catechism of the Catholic Church_. As faithful Catholics, each of us can help to open the "door of faith" in our homes, schools, and parishes to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ (Acts 14:27). We can rediscover the faith and encounter Christ through frequent celebration of the sacraments, especially in the Eucharist and through the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Encounter The Year of Faith is a "summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Savior of the world" (_Porta Fidei_, 6). "When [Paul and Barnabas] arrived [in Antioch], they called the church together and related all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles" (Acts 14:27). h3. Go Forth What is the best way you can help others study the teachings of the Church so they may grow in their knowledge of the faith? During this Year of Faith, how will you renew your personal relationship with Christ and the Church?
