The Scheduling Dilemma
On the Road
As you plan for next catechetical-school year, remember that Spring brings scheduling conflicts for many families. Sports programs are in full swing, practice time increases for end-of-the year music or dance recitals, and other seasonal activities often coincide with religious education classes.
Some parishes and schools wrap-up the religious education programs immediately after Easter, rationalizing that too many families will favor extracurricular activities over faith formation programs. Keep in mind the importance of ongoing catechesis, and the need to have a positive influence in making decisions.
Collaborate with others on how to balance all areas of family life without diminishing the importance of the Catholic faith. There are ways to demonstrate discipleship even in the extra activities of our lives.

“Where I sow, others will reap.”
Blessed Charles De Foucauld
“[A]dmonish the idlers, encourage the faint hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them” (1 Thessalonians 5:14).
